It’s been a busy week for the CCG in Arctic waters, including the rescue of two men in Bellot Strait who escaped onto a sea ice floe after their sailboat, ANAHITA, was breached and sank. Their distress call was responded to by our Marine Communications and Traffic Services in Iqaluit Nunavut, with the rescue coordinated by JRCC Trenton Ontario. The response included a commercial cargo ship in their area, the Claude A. Desgagnés and a private sailing vessel. In difficult foggy conditions, a crew from icebreaker CCGS Henry Larsen rescued the pair using the ship’s helicopter. CCGS Henry Larsen crew: Helicopter Pilot Brad Marshall; Survivors, Pablo Saad and Dario Ramos; First Officer Louis Denhez and Leading Seaman Chad LeRiche.
